Mountaineering
One of the great mountaineering experiences of La Araucanía. Over 1,600 m of elevation gain through araucaria forests and volcanic slopes, rewarded with an extraordinary panorama of Lake Conguillío and the volcanoes Sierra Nevada, Lonquimay, Tolhuaca, Villarrica and Lanín.
Mountaineering
A classic of La Araucanía and the perfect transition from trekking to mountaineering. Its crater shelters a glacier, and the summit delivers a privileged view of the neighboring Tolhuaca volcano and the great peaks of the southern Andes.
Glacier · Roped ascent
Climb the icon of the Los Lagos region over its crevassed glacier with rope, crampons and ice axe. From the summit, a stunning 360° view: the Tronador, Puntiagudo and Calbuco volcanoes, and lakes Llanquihue and Todos los Santos.
Trekking

Southern Chile is a paradise of green valleys, lakes, ancient forests and snow-covered volcanoes — the perfect setting for backcountry skiing. This 9-day journey runs from Temuco to Puerto Montt, skiing the region's iconic volcanoes: Lonquimay, Llaima, Villarrica, Mocho and Osorno.
Arrival in Temuco and 2-hour transfer to Malalcahuello. Afternoon to rest.
Ascent of Lonquimay (2,865 m): 3–4 hours up, then a descent on 30° slopes. Night in Malalcahuello.
Ascent of the emblem of La Araucanía (3,125 m). Slopes up to 45° — with good snow, an incredible descent.
4-hour transfer to Pucón. Afternoon to explore the town, enjoy a great meal and optional hot springs.
Ascent of Villarrica (2,847 m), ~5 hours on slopes up to 40°. If the crater is clear, watch its famous volcanic activity. Night in Pucón.
Transfer to Mocho (2,422 m) and a relaxed 4–5 hour ascent with beautiful views. Night in Choshuenco.
4-hour drive to the Osorno volcano refuge, stopping at scenic lookouts. Afternoon to rest and recharge.
Ascent of Osorno (2,652 m), 4–5 hours with a steep finish requiring ropes. A 360° viewpoint — and in the right conditions, skiing from the summit on slopes up to 50°. Night in Puerto Varas.
Day to visit Puerto Montt or reserve day in case of bad weather. End of the trip — transfer out.

Founder and director of Rutas Australes, instructor of mountaineering, climbing and skiing. With more than two decades of experience, he has developed his professional career across Chile and abroad.
Climber and athlete based in the Los Lagos region. He has built most of his career guiding on the southern volcanoes and mountains of Chile.
Also a Civil Engineer in Biotechnology and PhD in Applied Cellular and Molecular Biology. Linked to mountaineering and climbing since 2011.
Originally from Venezuela and based in southern Chile, he developed his professional training mainly in Bolivia and Argentina.
Higher Technician in Adventure Tourism Guiding. His experience as a guide extends across practically the whole of Chile.
