La Araucanía · Glacier crater

Nevados de Sollipulli

About this tour

The Nevados de Sollipulli is one of the great, little-visited sleeping volcanoes of La Araucanía, lately made famous by its moderate difficulty and beautiful landscapes. If you reach the crater rim you can observe the immense glacier inside — up to 6 km in diameter! — and see more technical volcanoes such as the incredible Llaima.

Itinerary

Day 1 · Sollipulli

We leave Temuco early toward Melipeuco and continue to the entrance of the Sollipulli park. There we gear up and start hiking through a beautiful forest of ancient araucarias and coigües. Leaving the forest we see the massif, then take a beautiful ridge with stunning regional lookouts, continuing on to attempt the summit of this great volcano. The crater is simply breathtaking, with the immense glacier covering its more than 6 km of diameter. An unmissable place!
